Old Scripting-Commands - Lobanak - 02-09-2002

Hello all Editors,

one small question after browsing the editorcenter-forum:

What is, when I now create a mission with many scripts and I want to play this mission in half a year, when I have installed three or more updates, which have changed the syntax?

I now use a command, which is not implemented in the next update. Then I cannot play the mission. But the mission is very great. And also I cannot reconstruct the mission with the new (if exist) commands. the old command is not supported, and so the whole mission is for the dirtbag, cause nobody can play.

Bals, I have read, that you are in contact with the developers of OFP. Please tell them, that they should look for backward compatibility of old versions. They should not remove old commands.

Re: Old Scripting-Commands - Balschoiw - 02-09-2002

Lobanak BIS always tried to keep old commands or substitute them with new ones. They are very cautious on compability. The problem is the deeper you get into editor with scripting the more the problems are when an upgrade arrives. In my opinion the upgrades of scripting commands were an advantage till now. Sure you have to fix certain scripts after upgrading but that´s not so hard. in comparison i prefer to have clever commands that are up-to-date than having to do scripts that fill pages to do the same If you check forum at edcentre you will see that the improvements weight heavier than the disadvantages. Keep your maps clear and the scripts common and you wont have future troubles.
